HYDRO-TEMP TROUBLE SHOOTING CHART

SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTIVE ACTION

Water around base of unit 1. Water leak. 1. Find and repair leak.
2. Condensate from water coil or accumulator 2. Insulate these items.
3. Condensate pan not draining. 3. Check for algae. Blow out     restriction in condensate pipe.
4.  Air coil Freezing up. 4.  Check for dirty air filter or dirty air coil.

Noisy Operation 1. Normal after recharging unit. 1. Initial operation after recharging may be noisy as refrigerant separates from oil.
2. Defective fan motor. 2. Repair or replace motor.
3. Defective compressor mounts. 3. Replace compressor mounts.
4. Defective Compressor (internal damage) 4. Replace compressor.
5. Refrigerant line vibrating. 5. Reposition and secure.
6. Loose blower wheel. 6. Realign and tighten / Replace
7. Foreign material in blower housing or defective housing 7. Clean housing or replace.
8. Duct work leaking or loose duct work 8. Repair and secure duct work properly.
9. Excessive water pressure on well. (thumping noise) 9. Install pressure reducer on well water supply line and set on 25 psi.

Insufficient Air Flow 1. Motor speed to low (Multi-speed units only) 1. Make speed adjustment (PSC) or
Send ECM Blower hub back for reprogramming.
2. Leaks in duct work or improper static pressure. 2. Repair duct work.
3. Dampers and / or registers closed. 3. Open registers or check wiring to powered dampers.
4. Obstruction in system. 4. Remove obstruction.
5. Clogged filters. 5. Clean or replace air filters.
6. Dirty air coil. 6. Clean air coil.

To much air flow 1. Filters not in place. 1. Install filter (s).
All units leave programmed for proper CFM.  Lowering or reprogramming the speed is not recommended. 2. Motor speed to fast (multi-speed units only) 2. Lower blower speed (PSC motor) or send ECM Blower hub back for reprogramming.

3. Registers or grills not installed. 3. Install registers or grills to match system requirements.
4. Insufficient static pressure. 4. Check static pressure calculation and correct system accordingly.

Fan run continuously 1. Thermostat fan selector turned to "on" position 1. Switch thermostat selector to auto.
compressor operative. 2. Defective relay transformer 2. Replace relay transformer.
3. Defective fan relay 3. Replace fan relay.
4. Defective thermostat or wiring. 4. Check thermostat wiring. Replace thermostat if necessary.

Fan operates, compressor 1. T-stat not set properly 1. Read T-stat instructions.
inoperative 2. Bad thermostat wiring or bad thermostat. 2. Check wiring, replace thermostat if necessary.
3. Low or high pressure limit switch tripping in unit. 3. Repair condition causing low or high pressures.
4. Internal protector activating. 4. Repair condition causing extreme operating temperatures.
5. Faulty internal protector. 5. Replace compressor.
6. Freeze protector activating. 6 Increase water flow
(more on bottom of page)
7. Defective capacitor. 7. Replace capacitor
8. Defective compressor. 8. Replace compressor.
9. Defective contactor. 9. Replace contactor.
10. Defective time delay 10. Replace time delay.

Unit inoperative 1. No power to unit. 1. Check unit electrical supply, fuses, breakers, etc. Restore power.
2. Defective control wiring or thermostat. 2. Repair wiring. Check thermostat wiring. Replace thermostat.
3. Defective transformer. 3. Replace transformer.

Reversing valve will 1. No voltage to solenoid 1. Correct voltage problem.
not switch 2. Bad Coil / solenoid 2. Replace coil.

(Power R.V. for cooling)

3. Stuck valve. 3. Tap valve with hammer until it switches or change valve.

Operating pressures too high 1. Too little water flow (cool cycle) 1. Check loop pump or flow.
and / or high pressure limit 2. Clogged air filter (heat cycle) 2. Clean or replace air filter.
tripping. 3. Air restriction (heat cycle) 3. Check duct sizes and condition.
4. Bad high limit. 4. Replace limit switch.
5. Unit over charged or bad expansion valve. 5. Adjust charge, adjust expansion valve, replace expansion valve.

Operating pressures too low 1. Out of refrigerant 1. Find and repair refrigerant leak.
and / or low pressure limit 2. Too little water flow (heat cycle) 2. Check loop pump and flow or water supply.
tripping. 3. Air restriction (cool cycle) 3. check air filter, duckwork, etc
4. Bad low pressure limit. 4. Replace limit switch.

Freeze switch activating. 1. Too little water (heat cycle) 1. Check well and discharge line for restriction.
  2. Well water too cold (heat cycle) 2. If water is too cold you can increase water flow to compensate.
  3. Freeze stat set too high 3. Lower setting (no lower than 34ºF) Most are none adjustable.
  4. Bad Freeze stat or sensor 4. Replace switch or sensor

Control board status light
flashing 1 time.
1. Low pressure switch tripped in heating. 1. Check water flow or refrigerant level

(Low pressure Switch)

2. Low pressure switch tripped in
cooling.
2. Check air flow / filters or refrigerant level
Will cause Low mem light to come on and stay on till reset or power is cycled.
