Lowest
Documented Energy Consumption of any School in the Nation
Fayette
High
School
This 36,080 square foot
school in Fayette, Missouri was built in 2002. The electrical consumption of the heating and
cooling equipment for the building, as well as the generation of hot water for
the kitchen was sub metered by Howard Electric Coop. The results of this
monitoring indicate the lowest documented energy consumption per square foot,
for the above usage, anywhere in this country. This achievement was partially
due to the innovative earth-coupled heat pumps provided by Hydro-Temp
Corporation. These record setting results are not an isolated case,
they can be repeated anywhere!

War Memorial Pool and Athletic
Center Proves
“ Bigger is Not Always Better”
The War Memorial Pool and
Athletic Center located in Little Rock, Arkansas had a serious problem.
The large swimming pool area had never been properly dehumidified since
the building was built. Parts of the building were literally molding
and rotting, and it was a very unhealthy environment.
BIGGER ISN’T BETTER
The two existing 20-Ton dehumidifiers were removed and replaced
with two much smaller 7-Ton Hydro-Temp dehumidification systems. A
conventional 10-Ton unit was added for cooling only.

Salem
Elementary School - Salem, Arkansas Salem
Elementary school is a single story building with 42,585
square feet of
conditioned space. This was the first school in Arkansas to be
completely heated and cooled
with ground source heat pumps. The electric
cooperative that serves the school provided a secondary electric
demand
meter to enable the utility and school officials to monitor exactly what it
cost to provide heating and
cooling for this facility. During their first two years of operation the school averaged 2.4
kilowatt hours
per square foot per year for heating and cooling. This
usage amounts to $565.00 average per month at six
cents per kilowatt hour.
The school also benefits from getting a lot of its hot water free in the
kitchen because
one of the ground source heat pumps has a heat recovery
device incorporated into it.

M.D.
Anderson Elementary School uses Hydro-Temp's console unit to heat and cool
the class rooms:
Concerned
with creating a good learning environment for the children at the M.D.
Elementary School, board members and administration began the search for ways
to update a system that had made learning difficult at best.
The school had aging wall mounted natural gas heaters and window air
conditioning units.
Teachers found it difficult to instruct while the units were running
because of the noise and so shut them off during instructional periods and
turned them on while the students worked independently.
That is not a good way to control the temperature environment in a
classroom.
School administrators went to several schools
and similar facilities in northeast Arkansas to personally visit with teachers
and administration to explore the possibility of converting their facility to
ground source heat pumps.
After exploring several options, it was decided they would pursue the
possibility of using console units manufactured by the Hydro-Temp Corporation.
Still one of the primary concerns was acoustical.
Could they use a console unit that would be their best-cost option and
still not have complaints about sound.
If the console units weren't significantly quieter than the present
system they would not use the console system.
Hydro-Temp being keenly aware of how sensitive the issue of sound was
made an offer to the school to bring a new prototype console unit there,
install it in a room of their choosing and let teachers, board members and
administrators judge for themselves if this was the route they wanted to take.

THAYER R-II SCHOOLS INCORPORATED HYDRO-TEMP EARTH
COUPLED HEAT PUMPS IN NEW
BUILDING
The Thayer School district
had a common problem, the need for a new school
building and a shortage of funds to build it.
Another concern was the cost of heating and cooling this new structure.
Fortunately, the school superintendent, Bill Garrison, had experienced
the comfort and utility savings of a Hydro-Temp Earth Coupled Heat Pump in his
home since the summer of 1995.

Baxter
Retirement Center - MT. Home, Arkansas The Baxter
Retirement Center located in Mountain
Home, AR is a unique 19,000 square
foot building that consists of 32 apartments used for independent
living. To
provide for the individual needs of the buildings occupants, Hydro-Temp
Corporation installed
four (4) 5 ton ground source (open loop) heat pumps in
conjunction with 32 motorized zone dampers.
Each unit has 2 compressors that
provides 3 heating and cooling capacities (1 1/2, 3 1/2 and 5 ton). It is
important to note that this unique 3 stage (2 compressor) option allows them
to run only the 1 1/2 ton
compressor when just 1 or 2 thermostats are
calling. This "capacity matching" provides excellent
dehumidification while preventing freeze-ups and eliminating the need for
inefficient by-pass dampers.
