The plumbing and the bottom half of the general plumbing drawings show the Hydro-Temp system plumbed in with a water strainer and a pressure reducer.  The water strainer and pressure reducer are optional items. 

If impurities are present in the well water a strainer is needed.

If a water hammer or thumping noise starts then a pressure reducer may be installed to regulate the water pressure into the system to 25 psi. which normally eliminates the noise.  Often times if a water hammer occurs it will be present when the unit shuts down, but can occur while the unit is running or during start up.

The Water valve drawing will explain adjusting the flow of water through a well water system.
